Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan is likely to be appointed as the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University.

Confirming the matter on Monday, the interim government’s high-rank officials said President Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university, has given his consent for the appointment.

Niaz Ahmed is a professor at the Department of Development Studies of Dhaka University. He also served as the pro-vice-chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

He is a renowned academician with more than 25 years of teaching and research experience in Bangladesh, the UK, and Thailand in the fields of social sciences, environmental/natural resource management, development studies, and business administration.

On 10 August, former DU VC Prof ASM Maksud Kamal resigned from his post.
