Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested 22 leaders and activists of Awami League who acted against the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, according to a top official of the force.
“A large number of AL leaders and activists fled from the country, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said at a press conference on Thursday.
The BGB chief believes that this is not just the responsibility of the border force to keep an eye on people who have escaped from the country through any border.
“It's not just BGB's responsibility? Of course there will be an investigation; an investigation is underway. We have investigated through which BOP covered the border area they fled,” the BGB DG told the media at the BGB headquarters in the capital.
He said that since the change in political landscape, BGB has always tried to secure the border.
“The task would be simplified if all organisations that provide information also provide it,” he added.
The BGB chief went on to say that some AL leaders are hiding in the country while many others are attempting to free the country.
