The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police arrested Jahid Hossain, 24, an inmate who escaped from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur during the recent student-led topple government movement.
A team of the ATU apprehended him in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area on Wednesday, ATU Superintendent of Police (Media and Awareness) Mahfujul Alam Russel told the Daily Sun on Thursday.
Jahid was wanted in connection with the murder of businessman Hamidul Islam, a leader of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD).
Jahid, son of Jamal Hossain of Batamara in Muladi, Barishal, has been on the run since his escape from Kashimpur Jail on August 6 of this year.
A case was filed against Jahid and other inmates involved in the escape at Konabari Police Station in Gazipur on August 15.
Hamidul Islam, who was the general secretary of the Shahbagh Thana Unit of the JSD, was killed near Kadam Foara in front of the High Court on the night of 23 January, 2021.
