The advisory council of the interim government has been expanded in a bid to improve the country’s law and order and to control the price hike of essential items in the market.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said this while talking to reporters at her secretariat office in Dhaka on Monday.

“Several new advisors, equivalent to a state minister, have been appointed to bring dynamism and efficiency in the government activities. Their roles are expected to assist in maintaining law and order and controlling the prices of essential goods, in light of the people’s expectations,” she said.

About the new role of Mahfuj Alam, special assistant to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, she said Alam has been given the rank of an adviser on a strategic ground.

Claiming that her government is working on ensuring justice over the July-August mass killings and reforms in many issues, she said the government-formed reform commissions will submit their reports to the government by 12 November.

The adviser said that the government will begin the reform works fully upon receipt of the reports.

Responding to a query about the election, she said that the country's political parties are calling for the next general election to be held as soon as possible, while also demanding reforms.

A dialogue over the election between the political parties and the government is on and the government is working to hold the election without any pressure from any quarter, she said.
