Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has urged students to bring their legitimate demands to him rather than resorting to road blockades.
He made the call while briefing reporters about the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the NEC auditorium in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Monday. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus chaired the meeting.
When asked about the ongoing student protests and road blockades in Dhaka, Wahiduddin said, “…both workers and students are staging demonstrations. Not just students, but many organisations are protesting in the city, blocking roads. How will this be resolved? I am unable to resolve this issue alone.
“I urge the students to bring their legitimate demands to me, and those will be fulfilled. Many demands have already been met because we said those were legitimate, and we would solve them.”
Wahiduddin, also the planning adviser, said, “Some demands are not just and we will not accept those. When unjust demands are made resorting to blocking railway lines or attacking passengers, the public will turn against them.
“From this perspective, we have the advantage. Those who cause hardship to people with unjust demands will be opposed,” he added.
