The authorities of Dhaka University have banned using loudspeakers and honking on the campus to ensure an appropriate environment for studying.
Besides, the university prohibited organising events using speakers or loudspeakers in Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), Shoparjito Swadhinata Chattar, halls and residential areas 6pm onwards, according to a notice issued by the proctor office on Saturday night.
This decision was made in the face of protests held by female students in front of the vice-chancellor's residence at night.
Protesting the sound pollution, students from Shamsun Nahar Hall and Ruqayyah Hall staged demonstrations since they are the main sufferers of the pollution because most of the programmes are organised near the TSC area using loud sound-producing devices.
