Last year’s runners-up Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a shocking 0-1 goal defeat to Rahamatganj Muslim Friends Society in their campaign opener of the ongoing Bashundhara Group Federation Cup 2024-25 at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka on Tuesday.

After a barren first half, defender Md Rajon Howladar broke the deadlock and scored the lone goal for giant-killer Rahamatganj with a right-footer from inside the box in the 82nd minute.

After three minutes, frustrated Mohammedan got another blow when their defender Jahid Hasan Shanto got a marching order as he fisted Rahamatganj’s Egyptian midfielder Mostafa Mahmoud Abdelkhalek Hammad. 

Mohammedan and Rahamatganj had been placed in Group B along with three others – Abahani Ltd Dhaka, Chittagong Abahani Ltd, and ABG Bashundhara BCL 2023–24 champions Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club.

In the day’s other match, Abahani Ltd Dhaka secured 3-0 goals win over Chittagong Abahani Ltd at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

Forward Suman Reza, Mohammad Ibrahim, and defender Yeasin Khan scored one each in the 17th, 76th, and 87th minutes for the winning side.
