BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday said the people have the right to know how long the interim government would stay in power and when they would hold the national election.
He also urged the government saying it is necessary to proceed in such a way that delay in reforms does not cause hardship to people.
Tarique made the remarks while addressing a programme organised by the party at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka on the occasion of Victory Day to be celebrated in the country on Monday.
He said, “I do believe that good governance will be established in Bangladesh if there is a parliament with accountability. If someone wants to become an autocrat, no law can hinder the individual in his/her ill efforts. Therefore, accountability is a must to keep the state free from fascists.”
The BNP leader said, “If the advisers of the interim government become embarrassed when asked for an election roadmap, it goes against the will of the people. And, it is a matter of great concern for the nation as well.”
He hoped the interim government would soon guide the people towards the elections with the roadmap for polls.
