The Kolkata forensic lab has found the DNA from body parts of murdered Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar to be similar to that of his daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen, Doreen told reporters Friday.

Doreen went to Kolkata in the final week of November at the request of Kolkata police and submitted her DNA samples there.

The samples were used to confirm whether body parts found in the sewage of a Kolkata hotel, MP Anar was suspected to be killed, belonged to the late lawmaker.

A few days back the CID of West Bengal, India, confirmed to Doreen that the DNAs did match.

On 12 May, MP Anar went to Kolkata to seek medical treatment. A day later, following his treatment, he went to Sanjeeva Suites in Kolkata for unknown reasons. He was eventually killed, cut into pieces and disposed of in different locations including hotel Sanjeeva’s sewage lines.

The Bangladesh police and West Bengal initiated a joint drive to investigate the killing, leading to a number of arrests across Bangladesh. The fall of Awami League authoritarian government on 5 August brought the investigation into an abrupt halt.
