Fakirerpool taste first win, Fortis held by Wanderers

Debutants Fakirerpool Young Men's Club tasted their first-ever victory in the top-tier professional league as they beat Chittagong Abahoni Ltd by 2-0 goals in the first-leg match of the ongoing Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Saturday.
After a barren first half, forward Sayed Hosser Sayem opened account in the 55th minute while Uzbek midfielder Sardor Jakmonov doubled the margin in the 90+3rd minute for the ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) 2023–24 champions.
Fortis Football Club shared points with another debutants Dhaka Wanderers Club, the ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) 2023–24 runners-up, as their match was tied at 1-1 on the same day at the Bashundhara Kings Arena here.
Forward Sakib Bepari scored for Dhaka Wanderers in the 37th minute while Ukrainian forward Valerii Hryshyn levelled the margin for Fortis FC in the 52nd minute.
Rahamatganj Muslim Friends Society beat high-flying Brothers Union Ltd by 3-1 goals in the day’s third match at the Shaheed Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
Ghanaian forward Samuel Boateng netted a brace in the 2nd and 90+6th minutes and forward Nabib Newaz Ziban scored one in the 80th minute for Rahamatganj MFS while Senegalese midfielder Cheikh Sene scored one converting a spot kick correctly in the 70th minute for Brothers.
After the day’s win, Rahamatganj climbed up second position with 9 points from 3 wins and one defeat, Brothers slipped to fourth with their previous credit of 7 points from 2 wins, one draw and one defeat.
Fortis were seventh with 5 points from one win, 2 draws and one defeat, Fakirerpool eighth with 3 points from one win and 3 defeats, Dhaka Wanderers ninth with one point from one draw and 3 defeats, Ctg Abahoni at the bottom tenth and yet to open their account.
