Top pro-Saad leader arrested over Ijtema Ground violence

Police arrested Zia Bin Kashem, a top leader in the pro-Saad group of Tabligh Jamaat movement, from Double Mooring area of Chattogram district on Saturday for alleged involvement in the killing of three Tabligh devotees on Ijtema Grounds.

NM Nasiruddin, deputy commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police South Division, has confirmed the matter to reporters adding the arrestee was being brought to Tongi.

Zia Bin Kashem is the sixth accused in a case filed with the Tongi Paschim Police Station over the Tongi Ijtema Ground killings on 18 December.

Three Muslim devotees, claimed by the rival pro-Zubair group as their member, died and over a hundred others were injured in clashes as the pro-Saad group abruptly tried to storm the Ijtema Ground occupied by the pro-Zubair faction.
