The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday confirmed that the suspension of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from bowling in cricket competitions will remain in place.
Shakib's bowling action was reported by the on-field umpires during his stint with Surrey County Cricket Club in September last year.
Thereafter he took part in bowling tests twice – firstly in England and secondly in India. But on both tests, his action was found to be illegal.
"National team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remains suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) based on the outcome of an independent reassessment conducted at Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai, India last month," the BCB said in a press release.
"Consequently, the player's existing suspension from bowling in international cricket following the initial independent assessment at the testing centre of Loughborough University in the UK, also remains in place."
But, the BCB made it clear that Shakib can still play international and domestic cricket as a batter only.
"A successful reassessment is required for the bowling suspension to be lifted. While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is eligible to continue playing as a batsman in all forms of domestic and international cricket," the release added.
The release further said that no further comments on the matter will be made by the BCB at this time.
Bangladesh will announce its team for next month's Champions Trophy very soon. After his failure in the bowling test, Shakib looked uncertain about getting a place in the Bangladesh squad.
He earlier expressed his desire to end his career after the Champions Trophy.
