Brothers Union Ltd beat table toppers Fortis Football Club by a 1-0 goal in their Group A match of the ongoing Bashundhara Group Federation Cup 2024-25 at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday to create a tough equation for defending champions Bashundhara Kings.

Fortis FC, who consolidated the top spot in the five-team group with 7 points from two wins, one draw and one defeat, already qualified for the knockout phase but both Kings and Brothers were still in the race for the quarterfinals as they secured the same 6 points from two draws and one defeat each.

On 28 January, Kings will play against Dhaka Wanderers Club while Brothers will take on Police FC who beat Wanderers by 2-1 goals at the Bashundhara Kings Arena also on Tuesday to create tough situations for both Kings and Brothers as Police secured 4 points after one win, one draw and one defeat.

The champions have no other way except to win the last match but if they lose points against Wanderers, the champions have to find out a lot of ‘ifs and buts’ and have to wait for the result between Brothers and Police.

In Mymensingh, midfielder Kawsar Ali Rabbi scored the match winner for Brothers in the 36th minute but the credit went to captain-goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana who made an amazing goal line save just a few seconds before the final whistle.

At Kings Arena, defender Md Emon took a lead for Wanderers converting a spot kick correctly in the 42nd minute but forwards Mannaf Rabby and Esanur Rahman added one each in the 84th and 86th minutes to earn the crucial win for Police.
