A new fictional narrative by social activist Pinaki Bhattacharya has ascended to the second spot in an Amazon category within a day, and at the same time, also taken the 29,128 place among over 44 million books available for sale at the US online marketplace.

The book “Fulkumari the Tale of a Refugee and a Rat in Pandemic Paris” tells the story of a Bangladeshi refugee in Paris surviving through the isolated hours of France’s painful Covid-19 lockdown era. The Bangladeshi refugee finds a rat to seek relief from alienation, names it “Fulkumari,” and tells it one story at a time about his past days. The reflections highlight before the readers the days of Liberation War, famine, and family events.

In a facebook, Pinaki expressed his delight at the book taking number two spot in Amazon’s “Historical India and South Asia Biography” category. He said he would keep a watch on the book’s ranking to see how further up it goes.

If the book continues to perform well, he would take up book writing wholeheartedly and focus only on fictions, Pinaki said in the facebook post.
