Representatives of government primary school teachers could not find a responsible officer to submit a memorandum on their demands at the Chief Adviser’s office on Friday evening, alleging they were deceived by authorities.
Their sit-in programme would continue to press home the demand of securing 10th grade benefits, announced Mahbubur Rahman, a teacher from the 10-member delegation, after returning from the office of Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
The future course of actions in the protest movement will be decided later, he said.
Earlier at 4pm, the teachers began a march towards the CA’s residence, but police obstructed them at Shahbagh, asking them to send a small delegation for discussions.
However, later, the teachers’ delegation was taken to the CA’s office, instead of his residence. There, the delegation was surprised as no responsible official was present to receive their memorandum, proving their journey futile.
The teachers currently enjoy 13th grade facilities, which allegedly classify them as "third-class workers" and provide only Tk11,000 as monthly salary. Under 10th grade, the teachers will enjoy improved social status, and get Tk16,000 monthly salary.
