Students of Islamic University, along with residents of nearby villages, staged a blockade on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway today protesting the relocation of the Islamic University police station to Jhaudia.

As part of their pre-announced programme, the protesters formed a human chain in front of the university's main gate and set fire on the road.

Due to the demonstration, traffic on the highway remained suspended from 11am to 2pm.

The protesters heavily opposed the decision to relocate the Islamic University (IU) police station to Jhaudia.

Residents from nearby areas, including Bittipara, Harinarayanpur, Lakshmipur, Madhupur, Abdalpur, and Shantidanga joined the protest.

Since morning, people from different areas have gathered in front of the campus with protest marches. Hundreds of university students joined them.

Abu Bakar Siddique, General Secretary of the Islamic University Police Station Implementation Committee, stated that the protest was conducted peacefully. The agitated locals will continue their agitation until their rightful demands are met.

Regarding the situation, Kushtia's Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman stated that a police team was sent to the spot and discussion was held with the agitators.

The matter has been informed to high authority.

On 9 February 2023, the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Public Administration directed the relocation of the Islamic University Police Station to Jhaudia, renaming it as "Jhaudia Police Station," while converting the Jhaudia Police Camp into "Islamic University Police Camp" within the IU campus.

Earlier on 4 February, residents of several villages blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway, demanding the immediate relocation of the Islamic University Police Station to Jhaudia. They kept the road blocked from 9:am to12pm.
