The South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University (NSU) will launch its publication, “Roots and Routes: Business Pathways in Bangladesh” on Wednesday.

This pioneering book, compiled as a student workbook for a classroom exercise, serves as a critical bridge between academia, industry, and entrepreneurship, providing in-depth insights into Bangladesh's evolving business landscape, read a press release.

Edited by Dr Rizwan Khair, associate professor of the SIPG, with Syed Shahnawaz Mohsin (political and international affairs analyst, student of the SIPG, and independent researcher) as the managing editor, Roots and Routes is a first-of-its-kind compilation of case studies from some of the country’s most influential businesses.

Featuring 26 cases of companies and industries, the book analyses the challenges, strategies, and successes that have shaped Bangladesh’s dynamic business ecosystem.

This book is more than just an academic resource—it is a practical guide for students, aspiring entrepreneurs, business leaders, and policymakers looking to understand the complexities of the Bangladeshi market.

By documenting real-world business experiences in the form of storytelling and long-form essays, Roots and Routes offers:

Case-based learning: This book explores how local businesses navigate challenges, innovate, and scale in a competitive market.

Strategic insights: Lessons from real business scenarios on leadership, resilience, and decision-making.

Bridging theory and practice is essential for academic curricula, fostering a hands-on approach to business education.

Industry-academia collaboration: Encouraging dialogue between scholars and business leaders to drive economic growth.

The book marks a significant step toward developing a localised body of knowledge on business practices in Bangladesh. While global case studies have long been referenced in academia, Roots and Routes brings a much-needed focus on businesses operating in Bangladesh, allowing local entrepreneurs to learn from success stories and real challenges within their economic environment.

“This publication is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and business professionals,” said Dr Rizwan Khair, editor-in-chief of the book.

“By compiling these business narratives, we hope to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and business professionals with effective skill set, and equip them with relevant and practical knowledge.”
