Indian police are on their toes after learning that Indian social media users are selling inappropriate videos and photographs of Hindu women pilgrims bathing and changing clothes during a religious festival.

The Maha Kumbh festival will continue till 26 February in Prayagraj city, Uttar Pradesh, India. Hindu devotees believe dipping in the confluence of three major rivers located in the city will erase all their past sins.

Two cases have been found against an Instagram account and a Telegram channel for uploading inappropriate digital content of women devotees and offering these up for sale.

Police are also contacting Meta, the parent of Instagram, to pinpoint the persons behind the alleged account.

Earlier, the social media monitoring team detected certain online platforms were uploading videos of women bathing and changing clothes at the Kumbh in clear violation of their privacy and dignity, the Uttar Pradesh police department said in a statement.
