A court in Dhaka on Thursday allowed the plaintiff to file a no confidence petition against the final report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in a case lodged for the murder of Arshad Waliur Rahman, the son of Transcom Group founder Latifur Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jakir Hossain Galib passed the order after a hearing on a review petition filed by the plaintiff, said Additional Public Prosecutor Azizul Haque Didar.
Names of five accused, including Transcom Group CEO Simeen Rahman, were dropped in the final report as the PBI claimed that during the investigation, they found no link of the individuals with the death of Arshad.
It was learnt that plaintiff Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of Latifur Rahman, will now file a no confidence petition against the PBI final report submitted to a court on 10 November 2024.
On 20 December, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah exempted the five accused of the charges.
Later, the plaintiff filed a review petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, challenging the order.
On 23 March 2024, Shahzreh Huq filed the case against her elder sister Simeen Rahman for alleged involvement in the “murder” of their brother Arshad, who was divorced and childless. Ten others were accused in the case.
According to the case statement, the accused in collaboration with one another “killed” the victim by either strangulation or poisoning aiming to prevent him from claiming a share of the family wealth.
On 16 June 2023, Arshad Waliur, also a member of the board of directors of the Transcom Group, was found dead at his house in Gulshan.
