During Eid, heavy traffic congestion occurs on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway due to the rush of homebound travelers.
Every year during Eid, millions of people from 24 districts in northern and southern Bengal travel through this highway, significantly increasing traffic compared to usual times. As a result, the highway experiences excessive vehicle pressure.
Transport authorities anticipate severe traffic congestion during this Eid journey. However, the relevant authorities have taken various initiatives to alleviate travelers' suffering.
The Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway is the second-largest in the country and serves as the only road connection between the capital and northern Bangladesh. Due to this, traffic congestion occurs on this highway every year during Eid. The Tangail section of the highway alone spans 65 kilometers.
Meanwhile, due to various complications, the four-lane expansion work on the Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highway has remained incomplete for the past eight years, particularly in the Tangail section. Transport drivers fear significant traffic congestion on this highway during the upcoming Eid.
The Superintendent of Police has announced that more than 750 police officers will be deployed on the highway to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Despite extensive preparations by law enforcement, transport drivers and general passengers traveling on this highway still fear severe congestion. Transport drivers report that as Eid approaches, rushed construction work often begins, disrupting vehicle movement and causing cars to lose control on damaged roads.
Additionally, the four-lane expansion of the highway has been completed up to Elenga Bus Stand, while work is still ongoing from Elenga to the Jamuna Bridge. As a result, heavy traffic congestion is expected on the highway.
