A Bangladeshi youth sustained injuries from a landmine explosion in Bandarban on Tuesday, adding to the list of landmine injuries near Myanmar border areas, amid a raging civil war in the neighbouring country.
The latest victim was identified as Md Tyeb, 35, son of Saber Ahsad of Sadar union under the upazila. He has lost one of his legs in the explosion near Naikhongchhari border under Bandarban district.
Sources said the explosion took place inside Myanmar’s territory, between the pillar no.46 and 47 in the Jaruliachhari border area.
Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said Tyeb might have crossed into Myanmar for smuggling and was injured in the blast while returning.
The explosion severed his right leg. Locals immediately rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment, the UNO added.
A good number of people were injured in the landmine explosions in the bordering areas over the last couple of months.

Three persons were also wounded in explosions in the bordering areas under Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban district on 29 March, 25 March and 21 March.
