In a welcome move for cricket fans across the country, state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) will telecast the upcoming Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series free of cost, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed confirmed on Saturday.
“We are thankful that BTV will telecast the series,” Faruque told reporters after joining 'Cricket Carnival 2025' organised by Banani Sports Arena.
“It was difficult to get their slot, and special thanks to the secretary who is present here. Everyone had to buy the air time but it was very kind of her and BTV as a whole… they will telecast it without any cost.”
Faruque highlighted the financial constraints currently facing cricket boards globally, including Bangladesh, and praised BTV’s support during a challenging period.
“There is a dull financially both at international level and in the domestic arena,” he said.
“Even Jio Star, who are handling global ICC events, is going through a tough time. This is sponsor-related, and we are still navigating the challenges after the change in government.”
The BCB chief also revealed that efforts are ongoing to secure additional broadcasting platforms for the remainder of the series.
“We are still talking, and if we get another TV channel, we will go for it,” he added. “Even if we cannot show this game [on another platform], we will try to show the next match on another channel,” he concluded.
