A Dhaka court ordered an investigation into allegations of bribery within the Prosecution Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as a Bangla national daily published a report titled "Secret bribery mission led by police officer," court sources confirmed the matter on Sunday.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Zakir Hossain Galib, passed the suo motu order on April 30 and directed to submit the report within seven working days.

A three-member investigation committee has also been formed to look into the matter and submit a report. The committee members are Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka Md. Humayun Kabir, Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman, and Assistant Police Commissioner (Prosecution) Rashed Hossain Parag.

The order stated that the report published in the Daily Jugantor on April 29 revealed that some officials were secretly taking bribes from justice seekers by withholding case files of the General Register (GR) branch.

Additionally, bribes were allegedly taken for allowing prisoners to meet visitors and receive food inside the jail. There were also allegations of bribery in matters of transfer and posting of officers. Considering the gravity of these allegations, the court emphasized the necessity of taking remedial measures.
