A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of controversial provisions in the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission report.
The petition also seeks a High Court directive to form a committee of experts to review the contentious and conflicting issues.
Supreme Court lawyer Rowshan Ali filed the petition on Sunday.
"The recommendations included in Chapters 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, and 12 of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission Report 2025 contradict the principles of Islamic Shariah, offend the religious sentiments of the people, and are inconsistent with the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh," the lawyer said.
The petition names three ministries and the chairman of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission as respondents.
The writ may come up for hearing this week before the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikder Mahmoodur Razi.
Notably, the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission Report 2025 spans 318 pages and has recently been published and discussed across various platforms.
