India is implementing a “well-crafted” plan to push-in people across the border and into Bangladesh, including Bangladeshi-origin individuals with valid Indian citizenship documents, said the BGB chief at the home ministry office on Monday.

At least five of those forcefully pushed into Bangladesh are India’s registered Rohingya refugees, raising the possibility of New Delhi violating human rights, said BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.

Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was also present on the occasion.

Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed-in 202 people on 7 and 8 May through largely unpopulated border areas to avoid Bangladesh border inspections.

Many of Bangladeshi-born people forcefully pushed into their homeland had India’s Aadhar cards and other valid documents, but the BSF snatched these from them. These Bangladeshis went to India for different purposes during a timespan from 20-25 years ago to 3-4 years ago.

BGB is working to send these people back to their respective localities in India through foreign ministry-level consultations, as the BSF has denied any involvement in the push-ins.

However, BGB has not accepted the BSF claim to innocence, and have lodged formal protests through flag meetings.

Border officials are ready to accept those holding only Bangladesh citizenship, but through a formal process and not hide-and-seek games, said Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.

The BSF are now waiting for a chance to push-in 200-300 more people through the Khagrachhari border, but has, so far, failed in the process due to increased BGB vigilance and patrols, he noted.

Still, the sneaky Indian border security personnel managed to illegally drop 78 people at the Mandarbaria charland in Sundarbans. The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued these people and is working to repatriate those holding Indian citizenship documents, the BGB chief noted.
