Bangladesh are set to receive Tk8.42 crore (equivalent to $720,000) for finishing seventh in the 2023–25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, after the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a significant increase in prize money for the competition.
This marks Bangladesh's best performance in any WTC cycle so far, having won four out of 12 Tests in this edition. Three of those wins came away from home — a 2-0 series whitewash against Pakistan and a memorable victory over the West Indies in the Caribbean last year. At home, they defeated New Zealand in one of the two Tests held in December 2023.
In comparison, Bangladesh had managed only one win in the previous two WTC cycles — a historic away victory against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui during the 2021–23 cycle. They went winless in the inaugural edition held between 2019 and 2021.
For context, the champions of the upcoming WTC Final — scheduled from 11–15 June at Lord’s between Australia and South Africa — will receive Tk42.12 crore (equivalent to $3.6 million), while the runners-up will earn around Tk24.57 crore (equivalent to $2.1 million). In the previous two finals, the winners took home Tk18.72 crore ($1.6 million) and the runners-up Tk9.36 crore ($800,000).
The ICC’s move to significantly raise the prize pool is part of its broader push to further elevate the importance of Test cricket and build on the momentum generated over the first three cycles of the nine-team competition.
