Indian authorities have halted the new Bangladesh high commissioner’s “letter of credence” presentation ceremony in New Delhi on Thursday, citing scheduling issues.

Credential ceremony of five other envoys from different foreign countries were also expected to be held on the day, but have been cancelled.

Riaz Hamidullah is Bangladesh’s newest high commissioner to India, replacing his predecessor Mostafizur Rahman. He was appointed to the post on 7 April, and will continue duties until September 2029.

The Bangladesh interim government sent the “agrimo” to New Delhi last November, seeking consent from Indian authorities on appointing him. India formally accepted the application in February.

Previously, Riaz Hamidullah served as the Bangladesh top envoy in the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. He also graced various roles at the UN permanent missions in New Delhi and New York. He has served as the director of Bangladesh office at the SAARC Secretariat in Kahtmandu, Nepal.
