The next general elections will be held any time before 30 June next year, but the timeline won’t go beyond the date, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Sunday.
The election can be held in December this year, or in January next, February, March, April, May or June, but it won’t be deferred further, Shafiqul said at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
The chief adviser’s recent Japan tour, his upcoming talks with political parties to fix the state reform agenda and other contemporary issues were discussed at the press conference.
At 4pm on Monday, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the second round of talks with political parties to decide on state reform measures under the “National Consensus Commission,” said his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mazumder.
All the political parties involved in the state reform talks have been invited to the second round, Abul Kalam said.
Hopefully, the second round of talks would conclude shortly, following which the government will be able to make a precise announcement on the July Charter, the deputy press secretary said.
