LEEDO has inaugurated the expansion of its 'Peace Home' and launched a new Mental Wellness Space in Washpur, Basila to support street-connected children. The event, held on Wednesday, aims to provide long-term shelter and trauma recovery support for vulnerable children, especially girls and survivors of abuse.
Each year, LEEDO rescues more than 420 children from the streets, many of whom are reunited with their families. For those who cannot return home, the Peace Home serves as a long-term refuge, offering protection, education, and emotional support. The newly expanded facility has been designed to accommodate more children, with a special focus on providing permanent care for girls in vulnerable situations.
In response to the rising need for mental health support, LEEDO also launched a dedicated Mental Wellness Space at the Peace Home. This new addition is intended to offer professional psychosocial counseling and therapy, particularly for children recovering from sexual abuse and street violence.
The inauguration, attended by both national and international dignitaries, began with a welcome speech by Forhad Hossain, the Founder, adding significance to the occasion.
German Ambassador Achim Tröster said, "The German Embassy is here not just for the government, but for the people of Bangladesh."
Manuel Haeussler, President of Give One Back, expressed deep emotion while speaking about the children’s resilience and reiterated the organization’s long-term support for LEEDO’s initiatives.
Renowned actress and social activist Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed engaged with the children through playful rhymes and interactive moments that brought smiles to their faces.
The event featured cultural performances, inspiring remarks by guests, and firsthand accounts from the children—offering a glimpse into their transformation and the significance of the Peace Home in their lives.
LEEDO emphasized that the initiative is a step toward giving every child a safe home and a chance to heal. "This is not just a celebration of bricks, but of hope and dignity," said a representative.
