An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to New Delhi was forced to return to Hong Kong on Monday after the pilot reported a suspected technical issue mid-flight, reports Reuters.

The precautionary turnaround occurred just days after a tragic crash involving a similar Dreamliner aircraft on a London-bound Air India flight, which went down shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India, killing 241 of the 242 people on board.

The aircraft operating Monday's flight, AI315, departed Hong Kong at approximately 12:20 p.m. and reached an altitude of 22,000 feet before beginning its descent, according to flight-tracking service AirNav Radar. It returned safely to Hong Kong International Airport at around 1:15 p.m., after issuing a request for emergency standby at around 1 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Airport Authority Hong Kong confirmed the safe landing and stated that airport operations were not disrupted.

The seven-year-old aircraft is currently undergoing technical checks, the source added. Neither Boeing nor Air India have issued official comments regarding the incident.

The earlier crash has posed serious questions for both Air India—currently in the midst of a major fleet overhaul—and Boeing, which continues to face scrutiny over safety and production standards after a series of high-profile incidents.
