Bangladesh declared on 285/6 in their second innings on the final day and set Sri Lanka a target of 296 runs in the Galle Test on Thursday.
Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored his seventh Test hundred and became the first-ever Bangladeshi captain, 16th overall, to score two centuries in two innings of a Test.
He was eventually unbeaten on 125 from 199 balls hitting nine boundaries and three maximums.
The visitors resumed batting on 237/4 after a long halt due to rain.
They added 49 runs in 11 overs they batted, 26 of those came in the final two overs since Shanto reached his century. The southpaw hit three maximums in those two overs.
Bangladesh lost the wickets of Litton Das (3) and Jaker Ali (2). Nayeem Hasan was batting on 7 when Shanto finally declared.
Sri Lanka will need to chase down the target in around 37 at 8 runs per over.
