A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and his wife Nuran Fatema over graft allegations.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges Court on Monday passed the order following the petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The same court also ordered the freezing of nine bank accounts belonging to Hasan Mahmud and 12 bank accounts held by his wife, all linked to the same allegations. Besides, a jeep worth Tk85 lakh was ordered to be attached.
According to the Anti-Corruption Commission, the couple allegedly abused power to amass wealth inconsistent with their known sources of income. There is concern that they may attempt to transfer ownership of these assets. Therefore, freezing and seizing the assets, as well as imposing a travel ban, is necessary to ensure a proper investigation, the anti-graft body stated.
