Rally calls for protecting coastal birds in Pirojpur

Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Monday organised a campaign, rally, and oath-taking ceremony to raise environmental awareness and also hosted tree plantation programme in Mathbaria of Pirojpur.

Students of Dakhingulisha Khali Momin Smritee High School in the upazila on Monday took an oath for the protection of coastal birds and biodiversity. Sanjay Kumar Howlader, school head teacher, chaired the session while Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of Shuvosangho, moderated the discussion.

School teacher Milan Sikder, local press club president Rafiquzzaman Abir, Kaler Kantho regional correspondent Devdas Majumder, Shuvosangho organising secretary Shibji Majumder Shibu, member Pradesh Mistry, and students Siam and Maksuda Akhter were also present on the occasion.

The coastal region is a wonderful blessing of nature, said Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of the Shuvosangho unit, adding, “But due to climate change, ignorance and negligence, the biodiversity of the coast is under threat today. We want this awareness to spread from schools to every level of society.”

Shuvosangho members planted a black cherry tree sapling in the school during the campaign.
