A total of 14 people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Feni and Munshiganj between Saturday and early Sunday, according to police and hospital sources.

Youth dies in motorbike crash in Tejgaon

An unidentified youth, aged around 22, was killed in a motorbike accident in the Tejgaon area of Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday. Sub-Inspector Badsha of Tejgaon Police Station said the youth was found lying critically injured on the road and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 3:50am, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue, and efforts are underway to determine the victim’s identity and the cause of the crash.

Mother and son killed by train in Feni

In Feni town, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was hit by the Chattala Express train at the Godown Quarter level crossing around 7pm on Saturday after it allegedly ignored the signal. The collision claimed the lives of Hafizul Islam (40) and his mother Fatematuzzohra (63). Hafizul died at Feni General Hospital, while his mother passed away en route to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said their relative Masum Billah. According to witnesses, three other passengers managed to jump out just before the impact.

Feni Railway Police have filed an unnatural death case, and Hafizul’s body was sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem.

Five killed in two separate crashes in Dhaka

In Dhaka, two separate road accidents occurred around midnight on Saturday, killing five people, according to police.

In Uttara, a truck ran over three pedestrians standing by the roadside near Azampur intersection around 3am. Two died on the spot, and the third succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Identities of the deceased remain unconfirmed. The truck has been seized, and the bodies sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Kafrul, two young men were killed when a motorbike collided head-on with a speeding microbus on the Bijoy Sarani link road. According to Kafrul Police OC Abdullah Al Mamun, the victims were not wearing helmets and were in casual attire. They were taken to DMCH and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead. Both vehicles involved in the crash have been handed over to Kafrul Police.

5 killed on way to Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s rally

At least five people were killed and 25 others injured after their bus hit a truck from behind in Srinagar, Munshiganj, while traveling to attend Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar Upazila of Munshiganj early Saturday, said Md. Swaib Hossain, Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

Investigations underway
