Five sentenced to death in 2017 murder case

A Dhaka tribunal on Thursday sentenced five individuals to death for killing a man in Palong upazila of Shariatpur in 2017.

Judge Mohammad Halim Ullah Chowdhury of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 delivered the verdict after recording the depositions of 31 witnesses, said bench assistant Mizanur Rahman.

The convicts sentenced to death are Ismail Sardar, Salmun Sardar, Aminul Sardar, Rezaul Sardar, and Jewel Sardar.

According to the case details, in 2017, Delowar Hossain, 30, his brother Dulal Sardar, 26, and their cousin Parveen Akter were returning home from Subachani Bazar when their autorickshaw was intercepted on a paved road in Paschim Charrosuddhi by a group of 31 named and unnamed assailants.

Delowar was dragged from the vehicle and brutally beaten and hacked with iron rods, hammers, and sharp weapons. Dulal Sardar was also attacked while trying to rescue his brother, and their cousin Parveen Akter was assaulted as well.

Locals later rescued the injured and took them to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. Delowar was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Delowar’s father, Salam Sardar, later filed the murder case.
