Coast Guard seizes 3,170 litres of octane in Chittagong

The Bangladesh Coast Guard members seized 3,170 litres of octane during an operation in the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong on Friday.
According to the sources, at around 12:30 am early Friday, Coast Guard personnel spotted illegal octane being offloaded from a boat near Bridge Ghat.
One person was arrested during the raid, identified as Md Shahid, 30, a resident of the city.
Sensing presence of the Coast Guard, the smugglers suddenly attacked on them.
However, the situation was quickly brought under control.
Bangladesh Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-ur-Rashid said the seized octane worth Tk3.9 lakh was reportedly stolen from various ships and were being smuggled through the river route.
Further legal procedures were underway, he added.
