The police have filed a case against unidentified HSC students, and “opportunistic miscreants” for vandalising vehicles and attempting to commit murder at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman accepted the application in this regard, and asked the police to submit the charge sheet on 28 August.
On Tuesday night, Golam Mukti Mahmud, a sub-inspector at DMP’s Secretariat security division, submitted the case application.
On Tuesday afternoon, hundreds of students from different colleges broke through the police barricade in front of the Secretariat, despite authorities’ repeated requests for holding talks and peaceful demonstrations.
The agitators, which allegedly included many “non-students”, vandalised vehicles inside the sensitive facility to “express anger” at the late-night deferral of HSC exams following the Uttara jet crash tragedy. To justify their demonstrations, they also expressed solidarity with the plight of crash victims.
The violent attack on the Secretariat led to a clash with the army and police, leaving at least 90 students injured.
According to the case statement, the agitators even tried to kill people by using sticks and brickbats against on-duty law enforcers. They also issued multiple threats to lives and property while vandalising vehicles at the Secretariat, the case statement reads.
