The Embassy of Bangladesh in Algiers has opened a condolence book to honour the victims of the tragic aircraft crash that occurred on 21 July 2025 at the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, Dhaka.
The crash of a training aircraft claimed 32 lives so far, including those of school-going children, leaving the nation in mourning.
Laïd Rebiga, Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, visited the Embassy on Thursday (24 July) and signed the condolence book on behalf of the Algerian Government.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Bangladesh and reaffirmed Algeria’s solidarity during this period of national grief. He also conveyed that the Algerian people are praying for divine mercy upon the victims and strength for their bereaved families.
On behalf of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdelmalek Bouheddou, Director General (Asia-Oceania), also visited the Embassy to pay respects. Throughout the day, numerous members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria—including Ambassadors, Chargés d’Affaires a.i., and senior diplomats from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas—visited the Embassy to sign the condolence book and express their sympathy and support. Representatives from several political parties also joined in offering messages of solidarity.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Algeria, Md Najmul Huda, expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and international support. “We are deeply touched by the presence of so many friends from the Algerian government and the diplomatic community,” he said. “Their heartfelt words and gestures offer great comfort to the people of Bangladesh during this difficult time.”
Earlier, on 22 July, the Embassy observed a day of state mourning in memory of those who lost their lives. Special prayers were held for the eternal peace of the deceased and for the speedy recovery of the injured.
