After qualifying for the top tier of Asian women’s football, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has taken steps to further bolster the national women’s team’s coaching staff ahead of next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Under the leadership of English head coach Peter Butler, three new foreign professionals—a goalkeeping coach, a female assistant coach, and a physical fitness trainer—will join the setup for the continental challenge.
Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, head of BFF’s women’s wing, confirmed the development on Wednesday.
“I have already spoken with President Tabith Awal regarding three positions. We need a goalkeeping coach, a female assistant coach, and a trainer for physical fitness. All three of them will be foreigners. After informing the president, he told me to see from where and whom we can appoint. I am looking into finalizing these three new foreign recruits,” she said.
Asked whether any existing staff would be dropped, Kiron clarified, “None of the current staff will be removed. New foreign coaches will be added to the existing coaching staff. I proposed to the president a month ago to appoint three new people while keeping the current ones. At that time, the president entrusted me with the responsibility to handle the matter. In the meantime, I have already sent the bio-data of one trainer to the president. He is reviewing it.”
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group B in the AFC Women's Asian Cup with North Korea, China and Uzbekistan. North Korea, making their return to the continental stage, are the tournament’s most decorated team. China, reigning champions and three-time winners, remain one of Asia’s most consistent forces. Uzbekistan, too, have shown promising progress in recent years.
