Govt to procure one cargo LNG, 70,000 MTs fertiliser, 25,000 MTs sugar

The government on Wednesday approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo of LNG, 70,000 tonnes of fertiliser, and 25,000 tonnes of refined sugar to meet the growing demands in the country.
The approvals came from the 30th meeting of the Advisers’ Council Committee on Government Purchase held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the finance adviser said that following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the government would procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market through the international quotation method from M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd, Singapore, at around Tk517.19 crore, with per MMBtu LNG costing $12.289.
In response to two separate proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser under the 8th lot from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia, at around Tk383.62 crore, with per ton fertiliser costing $781, while the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser under the first lot from KAFCO, Bangladesh, at around Tk164.91 crore, where per tonne fertiliser would cost $448.37.
Besides, the day's purchase committee meeting approved another proposal from the Ministry of Commerce under which the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure 25,000 tonnes of refined sugar through the international Open Tender Method (OTM) at around Tk175.98 crore, with per kg sugar costing Tk106.66.
