Fakirerpool Young Men's Club has been freed from a transfer ban imposed by FIFA after settling dues owed to Uzbek footballer Sardor Jakhonov.
The club had failed to pay the contracted amount, prompting the player to file a complaint to FIFA, which led to the sanction. Upon receiving payment, FIFA officially lifted the ban, with the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirming the directive today.
“We no longer face any barriers in the transfer market. FIFA has lifted the ban,” said club general secretary Ahmed Ali. “Thanks to the support of BFF officials and everyone at the club, we managed to resolve it.”
With only a week left before the transfer window closes on 14 August for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Fakirerpool remains optimistic about competing in the upcoming season. “We already have some players and are in talks with more, including foreigners. Fakirerpool will be on the field,” Ali added.
The club owed the Sardor Jakhonov Tk25 lakh, and officials had to struggle significantly to clear the payment. While doubts remain about whether the club can manage the Tk3–4 crore typically required to operate a Premier League side, the ban's removal ensures they remain in contention.
Initially, BFF had set a deadline of 4 August to resolve the issue, later extending it to 8 August. Had Fakirerpool failed, BFF had planned to replace them with Dhaka Wanderers in the top-tier league. Now, with the ban lifted, Wanderers lose their chance to feature in the Premier League.
Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club finished the 2024–25 season of the Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League in eighth place, narrowly avoiding relegation. They secured 19 points from 18 matches, just ahead of Dhaka Wanderers and Chittagong Abahani, who ended the campaign in ninth and tenth positions respectively and were relegated to the Bashundhara Bangladesh Championship League.
