The Bangladesh National Group of the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG-BNG), in collaboration with Jahangirnagar University (JU), hosted a Pre-ARC-15 scientific exchange with Nepalese geoscientists at the university’s geological sciences department on Monday.
The event, held ahead of the 15th Asian Regional Conference (ARC-15) in Kathmandu, focused on “Youth, Collaboration, and the Future of Engineering Geology.”
Keynotes were delivered by Dr Ranjan Kumar Dahal and Dr Manita Timilsina, highlighting regional cooperation and youth engagement in tackling shared geohazards, said Prof HM Sayem, chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences, on Thursday.
Local experts, including Prof ATM Shakhawat Hossain and Prof Sayem, emphasised Bangladesh’s growing role in regional geological research. A brainstorming session outlined future joint initiatives, including a proposed Post-ARC-15 field trip in Bangladesh.
The day ended with youth-led project presentations and a reaffirmation of cross-border scientific solidarity.
