Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector has further solidified its position as the world leader in green manufacturing with five more factories earning LEED certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

This brings the country’s total to 258 certified facilities, including 109 Platinum and 133 Gold ratings, said a press release.

The newly certified factories include South End Sweater Co Ltd in Ashulia, Purbani Fashion Limited in Sirajganj, KDS Fashion Ltd in Chattogram, Raidha Collections Ltd in Mymensingh, and Texeurop BD Ltd in Gazipur.

Four of these factories received Platinum certification, with scores ranging from 83 to 90, while Texeurop BD Ltd achieved Gold certification with 70 points.

Bangladesh now has 68 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified buildings, underscoring its global leadership in environmentally friendly apparel production.

The achievement comes as the industry faces mounting challenges, including the threat of a reciprocal US tariff and recent political unrest at home.

Despite these pressures, entrepreneurs continue to invest heavily in sustainable infrastructure, reinforcing the sector’s resilience and long-term vision.

Industry observers say each new green factory demonstrates a commitment to cutting environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, and driving sustainable growth.

The rapid expansion of LEED-certified facilities highlights how Bangladesh’s RMG industry is not only weathering difficult times but also setting a benchmark for responsible manufacturing worldwide.
