The interim government has issued a statement regarding the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of a rickshaw puller detained from Dhanmondi-32 in the capital.

Through the statement, the government has demanded an explanation from the officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, questioning the basis for his arrest.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the government asked why Azizur Rahman, the detained rickshaw puller, was shown arrested as a suspect in a case.

According to the statement, the OC has been formally directed to clarify the grounds for the arrest.

The statement further noted that Dhaka Metropolitan Police has initiated a review to determine whether there are any inconsistencies in the recent actions and remarks of the concerned police officer.

Additionally, instructions have been issued to submit the investigation report on Azizur Rahman’s alleged involvement in the case without delay, in accordance with the recently amended Section 173(A) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
