443 road crashes claim 418 lives in July: RSF

At least 418 people, including 47 students, lost their lives and 856 others were injured in road accidents across the country in July 2025, according to a press release issued by the Road Safety Foundation (RSF) on Tuesday.

The RSF said the findings were based on reports published in nine national newspapers, seven online news portals, various electronic media outlets, as well as its own investigations. According to the report, among those killed in road crashes, 72 were women (17.22%) and 53 were children (12.67%).

A total of 131 motorcycle-related accidents claimed 109 lives, accounting for 26.08% of total fatalities and 29.57% of crashes during the month.

Among the dead were 92 pedestrians (22%) and 56 drivers or their assistants (13.40%).

In addition, four waterway accidents left six people dead, while 21 railway incidents claimed 18 lives. The fatalities also included 109 motorcyclists and pillion riders (26.08%), 108 passengers of three-wheelers (25.84%), 41 bus passengers (9.80%), 30 passengers of trucks and pick-ups (7.17%), 20 passengers of cars, microbuses  and ambulances (4.78%), 12 passengers of locally made vehicles such as Nasimon, Bhatbhati and Mahindra (2.87%), and six passengers of bicycles and rickshaws (1.44%).

The RSF noted that 216 of the crashes (48.75%) occurred due to loss of control.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of crashes, with 117 accidents leaving 105 people dead, while Barishal reported the lowest figures, with 29 accidents and 16 deaths.
