‎A Dhaka court on Saturday sent MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi to jail after completion of his five-day remand in the murder case of Asadul Haq Babu during last year’s July Uprising.

‎Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order as the police produced the accused before the court, seeking his detention.

‎On 17 August, the Detective Branch of police arrested MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin from the capital’s Gulshan area.

‎According to the case documents, Md Asadul Haq Babu participated in the July movement at Jatrabari on 5 August.

A bullet allegedly fired by the accused struck Asadul in the chest, the case documents said.

‎He was later rushed to a hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the father of the deceased, Zainal Abedin, filed a murder case at Jatrabari Police Station on 30 August 2024.

‎Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 25 others were named as accused in the case where Nasir Uddin is listed as accused number 22 and his son Touhid Afridi as accused number 11.
