A total of 1,020 litres of soybean oil belonging to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) were seized during a raid at a grocery warehouse in Fatikchhari upazila of the district on Monday.
The owner of the shop “Messer’s Kamal Store,” Mohammad Iqbal, was arrested in this connection.
Sources said that acting on a tip-off, officials raided the warehouse of Kamal Store and recovered the oil, which had been supplied under TCB’s fair-price scheme for consumers.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said the oil was meant to be sold to people at fair prices.
“But attempts were being made to sell it in the open market through different shops. Acting on information, we seized the products,” he said.
The shop owner was arrested, and further legal action will be taken against him, the UNO added.
