Jalal Ahmad Jalal, the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president candidate (independent), has been shown arrested in an attempt to murder case.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur confirmed the development, saying Jalal has been shown arrested in the case and produced before court with a remand plea.

According to police, the incident took place around 12:30 am on Tuesday (August 26) when Jalal allegedly stabbed his roommate, Rabiul Haque, inside room 462 of Mohsin Hall.

Rabiul, a student of the Political Science department from the 2018–19 session, was critically injured in the attack.

In immediate response, Hall Provost Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam announced Jalal’s expulsion from the dormitory.

Police said Jalal was taken into custody shortly after the incident with the assistance of hall and university authorities. Later that night, the university administration filed a formal case against him.

As of Wednesday, police confirmed that Jalal has been presented before court with a petition seeking his remand for interrogation.
