A horrifying family dispute in Barishal has left a man blind after his eyes were violently removed by his own relatives.

Ripon Byapari, 50, of Muladi, accused two of his brothers and other family members of the brutal attack, which stemmed from a land-related disagreement.

The incident took place at his home on 22 August, and Ripon is now undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Dhaka.

Recalling the night of the attack, Ripon said his brothers called him a week earlier, claiming they wanted to resolve the land-related feud.

That night, he was tied up with ropes, attacked with a machete on his head and body and both of his eyes were gouged out in the presence of his 80-year-old father, he said.

A chilling 28-second video of the incident later circulated widely on social media, capturing the brutality of the attack.

Neighbours rushed Ripon first to Muladi Health Complex, from where he was transferred to Barishal.

The attending doctor in Barishal then referred him to Dhaka for specialised treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology.

The shocking attack has left the community in disbelief and sparked discussions on family disputes turning violently tragic.
