The physical condition of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur is improving gradually, and hopefully he could be released within seven days from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said the hospital’s director on Sunday.

Nur would also soon be shifted to a cabin from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), said DMCH chief Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman.

Nur is now suffering from four complications: fractured nasal bone, fractured jawbone, injury to eye and bleeding in the brain. Nur's condition has stabilised, but he is still in some kind of trauma, said Brig Gen Asaduzzaman.

VIP cabin no 1 has already been prepared for shifting the politician from ICU, said hospital sources.

The electrolysis imbalance in Nur’s body has stabilized, the catheter has been removed, and he can now eat through his mouth, said DMCH Resident Surgeon Dr Mostak Ahmed in an exchange with reporters.

Nur and other Gono Odhikar Parishad members suffered injuries on Friday night when law enforcers baton charged them for engaging in a clash with Jatiya Party (JaPa) activists, and for ignoring what officials said “their reported appeals for maintaining peace.”
